DURANT, Okla. – The East Central University women's basketball team traveled south Thursday night for a Great American Conference showdown against Southeastern Oklahoma State University. A slow start in the first quarter put the Tigers behind early, and despite their efforts, they were unable to recover, falling 66-46 at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
SE knocked down eight three-pointers and outshot ECU 48.9% to 34.5%, which helped propel them to the win.
The Storm took control early, racing to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter and creating a significant gap that proved difficult for the Tigers to close.
Kayley Alt opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to counter Southeastern's momentum, but the Storm continued their offensive surge while ECU struggled to find a rhythm. By halftime, the Tigers trailed 35-14.
After the break, ECU came out stronger, staying relatively even with the Storm in the third quarter, which allowed Southeastern's lead to grow only slightly, 18-15. The Tigers made a push in the fourth, opening with a 13-2 scoring run, including key buckets in the paint from
Eva Fernandez,
Katie Edelen, and
Claira Dannefer, cutting the deficit to 55-42 with just over five minutes to go. However, ECU couldn't close the gap, and the Storm eventually extended their lead back to 20 points, sealing the victory.
Katie Edelen led the Tigers with 15 points, while
Eva Fernandez contributed 14 points.
The ECU women's basketball team will look to bounce back on the road Saturday when they face Southern Nazarene University at 1 p.m.
