Herman’s Career Night Propels Women’s Basketball to Victory in Battle of the Tigers

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.  – The East Central University basketball team closed out their Arkansas road trip with a thrilling comeback, powered by a career performance from Makenzy Herman. Her remarkable shooting display, hitting 7-of-8 three-pointers, helped the Tigers rally in the second half and defeat Ouachita Baptist University on Saturday.

With the win, ECU completed a series sweep over the purple Tigers, improving their GAC record to 5-9.

After trailing at halftime, shooting just 28% from the field, ECU found themselves down 27-22 to OBU. But the Tigers ignited a surge in the third quarter, erupting for 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting to take control of the game. Herman was key, hitting four three-pointers in the period, including one at the 2:32 mark that gave ECU the lead for good.

Although OBU nearly matched ECU in the fourth, 18-17, the Tigers' explosive third quarter was too much to overcome. The strong performance allowed ECU to maintain a comfortable lead and secure the win.

ECU shot 45% from the field (21-for-47), 53% from beyond the arc (8-for-15), and 52% from the free-throw line (14-for-27). OBU finished shooting 44% overall (20-for-46), 20% from three-point range (2-for-10), and 78% from the line (14-for-18).

Herman delivered a standout performance, contributing seven of the team's eight total three-pointers, marking a career-high. She finished with 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Katie Edelen also scored in double figures, adding 12 points, while Claira Dannefer led the team with six rebounds.

The ECU women's basketball team will return home next week, hosting Southern Arkansas and Arkansas Monticello on February 6 and 8.
