ADA, Okla. – The East Central University women's basketball team hosted Southwestern Oklahoma State University in their final home game at the Kerr Activities Center for the 2024-25 season. In a tough outing, the Tigers struggled to find their rhythm, ultimately falling 76-54 on Thursday night.
Despite the loss, ECU remains in the hunt for a spot in the GAC Championship Tournament, currently sitting at 8-13 in conference play and tied for seventh place. With the final two spots still up for grabs, the Tigers' upcoming regular season finale against Oklahoma Baptist University will be crucial in determining their playoff fate.
The game started on a positive note for ECU, as
Katie Edelen helped the Tigers jump to an early 4-0 lead, extending it to 8-4 midway through the first quarter. However, Southwestern Oklahoma State capitalized on three Tiger turnovers, converting them into a quick 11-8 lead. From that point, the Bulldogs gained momentum, controlling the game and pulling ahead to a 19-12 advantage by the end of the first quarter. They extended their lead further in the second period, heading into halftime with a commanding 40-18 lead.
Out of the break, ECU improved their shooting and even outscored SWOSU 21-18 in the final quarter. But the Bulldogs' consistent play and strong defense kept the Tigers at bay, ensuring they maintained control throughout the game.
The Tigers shot 34.5% from the field and 22.2% from beyond the arc as they were outpaced by SWOSU's impressive 49.1% shooting and nine three-pointers. The Bulldogs also dominated in bench points, points in the paint, and rebounds, areas where ECU struggled to match up.
Katie Edelen and
Peyton Mosley led with 13 points and 11 points, respectively, while senior
Chloe Malone narrowly missed out on double-figure scoring with nine points. Malone played in her final game inside Kerr Activities Center and was honored following the conclusion of the game.
