ADA, Okla. – The East Central University baseball team kicked off their Spring Break home slate with a dominant 16-5 victory over rivals Southeastern Oklahoma State University in a midweek nonconference matchup on Tuesday.
The Tigers are set to resume Great American Conference play this weekend at Ken Turner Field, beginning Friday, March 21, at 2 p.m., as they host Arkansas Tech University.
ECU addressed their previous struggles, scoring in every inning except one. The Tigers outhit the Savage Storm 12-8, taking an early lead and maintaining control throughout. This marks ECU's second seven-inning run-rule win of the season, the first coming in a 13-0 shutout over Fort Hays State University.
Zac Carroll ignited the scoring for ECU with an RBI single, bringing in the first run of the game.
Max Tremblay then delivered a two-RBI double to right-center, extending the lead to 3-0. In the second inning, with the bases loaded, Tremblay came through again with a clutch, bases-clearing double, giving the Tigers a 6-0 advantage.
SE scored their first run in the third inning on two hits, but ECU answered with an explosive four-run rally in the bottom half.
Ethan Rone launched a two-run homer—his second of the season—before
Tyler Akers added a two-RBI triple.
Weldon Sherrell's RBI single to right field pushed the lead to 10-1.
The Savage Storm managed three runs in the fourth inning, their most productive frame of the game. However, ECU responded immediately with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A wild pitch allowed
Logan Jeske to score, and Akers' RBI single to center field extended the lead to 12-4.
The Tigers kept the pressure on in the fifth inning.
Blake Seefeldt blasted a two-run homer to left field, his first of the season, and Jeske tripled to center, driving in Tremblay.
Pryce Jackson capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly, plating Jeske for a 16-4 advantage.
Southeastern managed one more run in the sixth, but despite not adding any more in the bottom of the inning, ECU's run-rule lead held up, with the Tigers securing the final three outs in the seventh to seal the dominant win.
Luke Livian earned his first win of the season after starting on the mound and pitching 4.0 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out five batters.
Joel Hogan and
Beau Driggers combined for the final 3.0 innings, limiting SE to just one run and one hit.
Max Tremblay led the offensive charge, going 3-for-5 with five RBIs, highlighted by two doubles.
Ethan Rone and
Blake Seefeldt added home runs, while
Tyler Akers and
Weldon Sherrell contributed two hits apiece.
