ALVA, Okla. – The East Central University softball team capped off their series against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday with a commanding 12-5 victory, completing a series sweep and wrapping up a successful business trip.
This marks the Tigers' first series win and sweep of the 2025 season, boosting their overall record to 11-6 and their conference standing to 4-2.
After two scoreless innings, ECU took the lead in the third, scoring two runs on two hits.
McKinley Feazle crossed the plate on a passed ball, followed by
Elyse LeClair, who was driven home by
Jami Watson's RBI single, giving the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
However, Northwestern quickly responded, evening the score at 2-2 with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third.
The Tigers answered in the fourth inning, regaining the lead thanks to an RBI single from LeClair that scored
Abbey Strong, followed by a clutch two-RBI single from Watson, putting ECU ahead 5-3. But once again, Northwestern matched the Tigers, tying the game at 5-5 with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth.
In the fifth inning, ECU broke the game wide open, scoring seven runs on seven hits.
Carsyn Cox delivered a two-RBI double to give ECU the lead, followed by LeClair's double that plated Cox. Watson then added a two-RBI single, extending the Tigers' lead to 10-5.
Shayne Roberts and
McKinley Feazle each added an RBI single, pushing the score to 12-5 and putting the game out of reach.
The Tigers' explosive fifth inning silenced Northwestern for the remainder of the game, securing a decisive 12-5 win and completing the series sweep.
Brooklyn Charnock earned the start in the circle, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three.
Lindsey Mauppin came on in relief, throwing four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, and earning her fifth win of the season.
Jami Watson was a standout, going 4-for-5 at the plate with five RBIs.
Elyse LeClair and
McKinley Feazle also contributed with three hits apiece.
The ECU softball team now turns its attention to Arlington Baptist University, as they prepare for a nonconference doubleheader at Latta High School on Tuesday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m.
