Baseball Wraps Up Road Slate, Falls to SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The East Central University baseball team wrapped up their final midweek, non-conference, and road game of the 2025 season with a trip to Weatherford, falling 8-4 to Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Tuesday.

ECU got off to a strong start but couldn't hold on, as the Bulldogs rallied in the later innings to claim the win.

The Tigers will now turn their attention to their final Great American Conference and home series of the year, hosting Southeastern Oklahoma State University for a rivalry showdown. The three-game set kicks off on Friday, April 25, at 2 p.m.

After both teams went down in order in the first, ECU jumped out early in the second inning, plating three runs on four hits. Blake Seefeldt opened the scoring with a solo home run to left, Christian Fernandez and Bennie Qualls followed with consecutive singles, and Pryce Jackson delivered a two-RBI single to center, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

SWOSU responded in the bottom of the frame, cutting the deficit to one with two runs on three hits. After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs pulled ahead in the fifth, taking a 4-3 lead.

The Tigers briefly tied things up in the sixth when Ethan Rone lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 4-4, but the bats fell quiet after that. SWOSU tacked on two runs in both the sixth and eighth innings to pull away and secure the 8-4 victory.

Tate Rico took the mound for ECU, going five innings and allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out three in the loss. Daniel Campbell, Ryan Dembroski, and Jeremy Slate combined for the final three innings in relief.

Seefeldt led the offensive effort, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate highlighted by his fourth homer of the season, while Jackson added two RBIs on the day.
