Football Set for Season and Home Opener Under the Lights Against Ouachita Baptist
ADA, Okla. – The wait is nearly over as East Central University football is just one week away from kicking off the 2025 season. The Tigers will open their campaign under the lights of Koi Ishto Stadium and Norris Field on Thursday, Sept. 4, hosting GAC contender Ouachita Baptist University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Leading ECU into the new season is Head Coach
John Litrenta, now entering his third year at the helm. Under his leadership, the Tigers continue to build on a solid foundation while integrating a promising 49-player signing class.
"2025 will be the result of our process we have been staying true to since January," said Litrenta. "I'm excited to see this team come together and compete as one! The standard that we have set for ourselves is getting better each day and ending every day with the goal of being our best selves. Mentally and physically preparing each day with a methodical care and intentionality. We expect to play physical, smart, and with great effort."
Litrenta has strengthened his coaching staff with key additions and internal promotions aimed at elevating the program on all fronts. New hires include Jesse Salazar as Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, Rodrick Weaver Jr. as Defensive Line Coach, Devon Garrison as Wide Receivers Coach, and
Devon Roush, a former Tiger standout and All-American, as the Assistant Linebackers Coach. Additionally, Christopher Bolden has been promoted to Offensive Coordinator while leading the running backs in his second year with the staff.
On offense, the Tigers return a dynamic group of playmakers, including quarterback
Sergio Kennedy and All-GAC Third Team running back
Cade Searcy. Wide receivers
Kaden Jones and
Hayden Stewart provide reliable targets, while the offensive line is anchored by veterans
Ty Dodd,
Tyson Johnson, and
Joshua Rodriguez.
Defensively, ECU boasts a strong and balanced unit. The front is led by All-GAC honoree
Seth Aguilera at defensive tackle and
Oladotun Olanipekun on the line. At linebacker,
Michael Onwuzurike,
Molinsky Desire, and
Caden Pickens bring energy and physicality. The secondary features
Keebler Wagoner at safety, along with
Simon Jackson and
Terry Lewis II holding down the defensive backfield.
On special teams, the Tigers are anchored by standout punter
Reece Conner, another All-GAC Third Team selection, and long snapper
Brett Alfred, who ensures consistency in the kicking game.
