Women’s Basketball Rally in Second Half Behind Edelen’s Career-Best 29 Points to Defeat SAU 61-56

ADA, Okla. – The East Central University women's basketball team used a dominant second-half surge to erase a halftime deficit and defeat Southern Arkansas University, 61–56, on Saturday afternoon at the Kerr Activities Center. The win completed a weekend home sweep for the Tigers and marked their second straight victory at home.

With the win, ECU improves to 7–5 overall and 3–5 in Great American Conference play, while the Muleriders fall to 8–6 overall and 4–4 in the GAC.

"We started off slow offensively, but we sped up the tempo in the second half to get quicker baskets," Head Coach Heather Hurt said. "Katie had a great day to lead the charge. Defensively, our guard group did a great job guarding 1 and 10."

Katie Edelen turned in a career performance, scoring a career-high 29 points to lead all scorers. Edelen was dominant at the free-throw line, going 13-for-14, and pulled down 12 rebounds to record a double-double. She scored 21 of her points in the second half, delivering when ECU needed it most.

After trailing 33–20 at halftime, ECU came out of the locker room with renewed energy, outscoring the Muleriders 21–10 in the third quarter to seize momentum. The Tigers continued their push in the fourth quarter, holding SAU to 13 points while scoring 20 of their own to secure the comeback win.

Both teams were fairly even from the field, with ECU hitting 38.0 percent and SAU just behind at 37.9 percent. But ECU dominated the boards 34–30 and capitalized on clutch free-throw shooting, converting 19-of-24 attempts.

Rylie Burnett finished with 12 points, including two three-pointers, while Peyton Mosley had a standout nine points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
