Kemboi Earns Second USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week Honor
NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its NCAA Division II Women's Athlete of the Week for Week Five of the 2026 season on Monday, with East Central University sophomore standout
Joyce Kemboi earning the national honor.
The recognition marks Kemboi's second USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week award of her career, adding to an already historic season. She secured another individual title Saturday at the Old Glory Gallop, hosted by Dallas Baptist University, dominating the field with a winning time of 16:26.5, 10.2 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Her performance helped lead the Tigers to a second-place team finish, their best result at the Old Glory Gallop.
With her latest honor, Kemboi becomes the first runner in East Central women's cross country history to earn two USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week awards.
Kemboi's record-setting season continues to propel the Tigers as they turn their attention to the Great American Conference Championships, set for Saturday, Nov. 7, in Shawnee.
