ADA, Okla. – The East Central University baseball team powered past Randall University, 15-10, in a high-scoring midweek matchup Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-8 on the season and now turn their attention back to Great American Conference play as they travel to Alva to face Northwestern Oklahoma State University this weekend.
Randall capitalized on Tiger miscues in the first inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead, scoring all four runs unearned. But ECU responded quickly in the bottom half, trimming the deficit to 4-2 behind a sacrifice fly from
Joey Allen and an RBI single by
Pryce Jackson.
The Tigers erupted in the second inning to take control of the game. A grand slam from
Max Tremblay to right center gave ECU its first lead of the afternoon at 6-4. Later in the inning, Allen tripled down the right field line and came around to score on the play, pushing the advantage to 8-4.
ECU kept the pressure on in the third. Jackson laced a three-RBI double down the left field line to extend the lead to 11-4, and
Logan Jeske followed with a two-run home run to left, stretching the margin to 13-4.
Randall mounted a rally in the seventh, scoring three runs to cut into the lead, but ECU answered with an RBI groundout from
Mason Shimkus to make it 14-7. In the eighth,
Cole Tracy added insurance with an RBI single to give the Tigers a 15-7 cushion.
Randall made things interesting in the ninth, plating three runs, but ECU closed the door to secure the 15-10 victory.
Ryan Strickland paced the Tigers with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate, scoring twice.
Pryce Jackson added three hits and drove in four runs, while
Max Tremblay went 2-for-5 with four RBIs, highlighted by his grand slam.
Logan Jeske finished with two hits and two RBIs, and
Jameson Ross recorded two hits and scored three times.
Joey Allen contributed a hit and three RBIs, while
Cole Tracy added an RBI single off the bench.
Blake Seefeldt got the start and worked 3.0 innings, allowing four runs (none earned) on three hits while striking out seven.
Cooper Ewing and
Evan Groh combined for two scoreless innings in relief, with Groh (1-0) earning the win after striking out three in a perfect frame.
Cameron Ebert followed with a scoreless inning of his own, fanning two.
Drew Sheppard and
Andrew Black allowed six combined runs over the next 2.2 innings as Randall mounted its late push, and
Jakob Brandenberger recorded the final out to help secure the victory.
