Men’s Golf Faces Windy Test at Oak Tree Invitational
EDMOND, Okla. – The East Central University men's golf team traveled to Edmond, Oklahoma, for the Oak Tree Invitational, hosted by Oklahoma Christian University March 16-17. Battling gusty winds and challenging weather, the Tigers completed just two rounds in the 18-team field, finishing 15th overall.
Pablo Illescas led ECU, placing 34th individually with a two-round total of 153 (+13). He opened with a 79 (+9), navigating tough course conditions and closing the front nine strong. Illescas followed with a 74 (+4) in Round 2, maintaining steady play and setting the pace for the team.
Jackson Jones finished 75th with a two-round total of 161 (+21). He posted a 78 (+8) in Round 1, staying consistent across both nines despite the windy conditions. In Round 2, he carded an 83 (+13), continuing to gain experience in a competitive Division II field.
Gabriel Jones placed 77th overall with a two-round total of 162 (+22). He opened with an 80 (+10), managing the tough winds and course layout, and followed with an 82 (+12) in Round 2, holding steady despite challenging conditions.
Gage Tennyson finished 82nd with a two-round total of 164 (+24). He struggled early with an 85 (+15) but bounced back in Round 2 with a 79 (+9), showing progress and consistency across the two rounds.
Rhett Gray rounded out ECU's team scoring, finishing 85th with a two-round total of 167 (+29). Gray posted a strong opening round of 76 (+6) and, despite a difficult second round with a 91 (+23), remained competitive and contributed to the team's effort.
