Baseball Wraps Up Road Trip with Doubleheader Loss

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The East Central University baseball team wrapped up its Great American Conference road series at Arkansas Tech University on Saturday, but was unable to match the offensive production of the Wonder Boys, falling in both games of the doubleheader.

The Tigers drop to 6-12 in GAC play and will now return to Ada for a midweek non-conference matchup against Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Tuesday, March 24 at 3 pm.

In game one, Arkansas Tech struck early and took control with a four-run second inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead. The Wonder Boys continued to build on their advantage, adding two more runs in the third before breaking the game open in the fourth with a seven-run frame to extend the lead to 13-0.

ECU was able to get on the board in the sixth inning, as Trace Necessary drove in a run on a ground ball, but the Tigers were unable to generate further offense, falling 13-1 in the opener.

Donovan Noble, Trace Necessary, Christian Fernandez, Pryce Jackson, and Cooper McCage each collected a hit.

Holden Conner started and worked 1.2 innings, giving up 4 runs on 3 hits before handing the ball over to Joel Hogan, who pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 4 runs on 3 hits. Blake Seefeldt followed in relief for two-thirds of an inning, also allowing 4 runs on 3 hits, while Zane Wilson came in briefly to record one out and give up 1 run. In the later innings, Cason Coomer and Trace McDaniels provided solid relief, combining for a scoreless inning.

In game two, Arkansas Tech once again used an early surge to take control, scoring three runs in the second inning before adding three more in the third to extend the lead to 6-0. The Wonder Boys put the game out of reach in the fourth inning, erupting for 11 runs to build a commanding 17-0 advantage.

The Tigers showed some fight late, getting on the board in the fifth with a solo home run from Cole Tracy. ECU added two more runs in the sixth, highlighted by an RBI double from Donovan Noble and a sacrifice fly from Max Tremblay to cut into the deficit. However, Arkansas Tech added another run in the bottom half of the inning, sealing an 18-3 victory.

ECU tallied four hits in the game, with Tyler Akers, Donovan Noble, Cole Tracy, and Diego Sotelo each recording a base hit, while Noble, Tremblay, and Tracy drove in the Tigers' three runs.

Caleb Peek started and worked 2.1 innings, followed by relief from Andrew Black and Cooper Ewing, who each saw action in middle innings. Evan Groh, Caleb Ebert, and Jagger Green closed out the game, providing key strikeouts and keeping the game moving in the later innings.
