Baseball Finishes Home Slate with Doubleheader Sweep Over SAU, Extends Win Streak to 10

ADA, Okla. – The East Central University baseball team closed out its final home series in thrilling fashion Friday, sweeping Southern Arkansas University in a doubleheader with an 8-4 win in game one and a dramatic 2-1 walk-off victory in the finale at Ken Turner Field. Max Tremblay delivered the game-winning hit in the seventh inning of game two to complete the sweep and extend ECU's winning streak to 10 games at home.
 
With the sweep, the Tigers improve to 19-20 overall and 15-12 in Great American Conference play, moving into a tie for fourth place in the standings. The 10-game win streak matches the program's longest since the 2016 season, as ECU continues to surge at the perfect time in the year. The Tigers also capped their home slate with a 15-6 record at Ken Turner Field.
 
In game one, ECU came out swinging with a four-run opening inning. Max Tremblay started the scoring with an RBI single before Joey Allen delivered a two-RBI knock, and Logan Jeske capped the frame with an RBI double to give the Tigers an early 4-0 lead.
 
Southern Arkansas answered with two runs in the fourth, but ECU responded quickly. Donovan Noble brought home a run on a sacrifice fly before Ryan Strickland added an RBI single to stretch the lead to 6-2.
 
The Muleriders scratched across a run in the fifth to cut into the lead, but the Tigers answered right back in the seventh, as RBI singles from Donovan Noble and Max Tremblay pushed the advantage to 8-3.
 
Southern Arkansas added a run in the ninth, but a final strikeout closed the door and secured the 8-4 victory for ECU.
 
ECU finished with 19 hits in the opening game of the doubleheader, with Joey Allen and Max Tremblay powering the offense with strong performances. Allen went 4-for-5 with 2 RBIs and Tremblay added 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Tyler Akers went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Donovan Noble contributed 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Ryan Strickland and Logan Jeske each added an RBI to help fuel the offensive attack.
 
On the mound, Simon Baker worked 3.2 innings, allowing two runs while striking out two. Joel Hogan followed in relief, recording 0.1 inning of work before turning things over to the bullpen. Easton Riddle delivered a strong finish, tossing 5.0 innings of relief and allowing just one run on two hits while earning the win to move to 2-1 on the season.
 
Game two turned into a pitcher's duel, with ECU striking first in the second inning when Tyler Akers was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the opening run.
 
Southern Arkansas tied the game in the fifth, and the score remained deadlocked until the seventh.
 
That's when Max Tremblay stepped up once again, lining a walk-off RBI single to bring home Akers and seal a 2-1 win, clinching the doubleheader sweep in dramatic walk-off fashion.
 
ECU was led offensively by Tyler Akers and Max Tremblay, each driving in a run and a hit in the effort. Donovan Noble, Ryan Strickland, Joey Allen, Pryce Jackson, and Cooper McCage each recorded a hit, helping the Tigers put together a balanced offensive attack.
 
On the mound, Caleb Peek delivered a strong start, working 5.0 innings and allowing just one run while striking out two. Andrew Black was dominant in relief, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and earning the win to move to 2-1 on the season.
