Men’s Track & Field Claim Two Event Titles, Multiple Top Finishes in Norman
NORMAN, Okla. – The East Central University men's track and field team turned in another strong performance at the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman on April 10, recording two event wins and multiple top-10 finishes against a competitive Division I and Division II field.
Leading the way for the Tigers was
Donald Kipsang, who delivered a dominant distance performance with two event titles, winning the 1500 meters (3:53.91) and the 5000 meters (14:53.82).
In the 1500 meters, ECU showcased its depth as
Bhekizulu Khumalo placed second (3:56.59), giving the Tigers a 1-2 finish in the event.
On the track,
Josh Horne continued his strong freshman campaign, placing third in the 200 meters (21.35) and sixth in the 100 meters (10.57).
In the middle-distance events,
Brian Mitei led the way with a sixth-place finish in the 800 meters (1:54.83), while
Aiden Sager (9th, 1:58.36) and
Ladon Vance (13th, 2:00.48) added solid performances.
The Tigers also turned in a strong showing in the relays, as the 4x100-meter relay team of
Samuel Brown,
Curtis Johnson,
Ryan Owens, and
Josh Horne placed third with a time of 41.87.
In the field events,
Gustin Snodgrass highlighted the day with a fourth-place finish in the javelin (55.00m), while also competing in the long jump.
Eddie Jennings (6.28m),
Lee Cobb (6.21m), and Snodgrass (6.09m) all competed in the long jump, while Cobb also added a mark of 12.26m in the triple jump.
Cade Duvall represented ECU in the throws, recording a 33.24m mark in the discus and 36.68m in the javelin.
Additional performances included
Ryan Owens (50.62) and
Samuel Brown (52.65) in the 400 meters, along with
Ivan Barrientos, who placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.20).
