ADA, Okla. — East Central University Athletics is proud to announce the promotion of Floyd Ross to Director of Strength & Conditioning, recognizing his dedication to student-athlete development, performance, and leadership within ECU Athletics.

Ross has been a member of the ECU strength & conditioning staff since 2021 and most recently served as Interim Director of Strength & Conditioning beginning in March 2026, where he managed the department's daily operations, led training sessions, and maintained continuity across ECU's athletic performance programs.

Prior to the interim role, Ross served as Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning beginning in November 2025, overseeing multiple NCAA Division II athletic programs while designing sport-specific strength and conditioning plans focused on athlete performance, injury reduction, and movement efficiency. In addition to his strength & conditioning responsibilities, Ross has served as ECU's Head Powerlifting Coach since August 2024, coaching and programming for more than 15 athletes while leading recruitment efforts and fostering team culture development.

"Floyd has earned the respect of the coaches and student athletes time and time again since serving in his various roles in Strength and Conditioning here at ECU," said ECU Athletic Director Matt Cole. "He has and will continue to contribute to the success of our student athletes. Floyd is a contemporary coach for the modern student athlete, and will enhance their experiences within their respective programs."

Ross originally joined the ECU strength staff as a Student Assistant from 2021-2024 before being promoted to Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach in August 2024. In that role, he worked directly with football, baseball, and softball athletes while also leading onboarding and orientation efforts for nine ECU athletic teams.

"East Central University gave me my start as a student intern, so this opportunity is monumental," said Ross. "But this job isn't about me. It's about building a culture and environment that sets our athletes up for success both on the field of play and beyond."

Ross is a USAPL Level 1 Coach and has experience in strength and conditioning program design and sprint mechanics development. He has also competed at the national level in powerlifting, earning an 11th-place finish at the USAPL Collegiate Nationals.

A two-time East Central University graduate, Ross earned a Master's in Sports Administration in December 2025 with a 4.0 GPA after completing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in May 2024.

A search for ECU's Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning will begin in the coming weeks.
