Baseball Concludes Historic Run at GAC Championship Series

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The historic postseason run for the No. 8 East Central University baseball team came to a close Friday night as the Tigers fell 13-6 to No. 2 Arkansas Tech in game two of the Great American Conference Championship Series in Russellville.

After suffering a heartbreaking walk-off loss in game one on Thursday, ECU entered Friday needing a win to keep its season alive and force a decisive third game. The Wonder Boys, however, struck early on their home field and built a lead the Tigers were ultimately unable to overcome despite battling back multiple times throughout the night.

Although the season ended one game short of a title, the Tigers produced one of the most memorable and successful seasons in recent program history. ECU finished with a 23-27 overall record, its best overall mark since 2012, while posting a 16-17 conference record, its best GAC finish since 2016.

Picked to finish 11th in the Great American Conference preseason poll, the Tigers defied expectations throughout the spring and ended the 2026 campaign as the GAC Championship Series runner-up. The Tigers also made history throughout the postseason, becoming the first No. 8 seed to ever advance to the GAC Championship Series and recording the program's first three-win run through GAC Tournament bracket play.

ECU's appearance on the championship stage marked another major step forward for the program and showcased the grit, resilience, and belief this team carried throughout the season.

Arkansas Tech opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run before adding five more runs in the third to take a 7-0 advantage.

ECU refused to back down, getting on the board in the fourth when Ryan Strickland launched a solo shot to left field. The Tigers chipped away again in the sixth as Max Tremblay drove in a run with a double to right center before Pryce Jackson followed with an RBI infield single to make it 8-3.

The Wonder Boys answered with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, but ECU continued to battle in the seventh inning. Strickland delivered an RBI single through the left side and Tremblay added a two-run single to cut the deficit to five.

Arkansas Tech, however, added two late insurance runs in the eighth inning to close out the series-clinching win.

Ryan Strickland capped his outstanding postseason run, finishing 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, while Max Tremblay went 3-for-4 and drove in a team-high three runs. Mason Shimkus added a pair of hits, while Tyler Akers, Donovan Noble, and Pryce Jackson each recorded hits as well. Akers reached base three times with two walks and scored a run, while Noble crossed the plate twice for ECU.

On the mound, Caleb Peek got the start for the Tigers, striking out three batters over 2.1 innings of work. Cameron Ebert provided valuable relief innings out of the bullpen, tossing 3.1 innings while allowing two runs and working around five walks to help stabilize the game during the middle innings. Zane Wilson added a strikeout in relief, while Greyson Christian closed out the final two innings for the Tigers.
