RUSSELVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced its first weekly award winners of the 2026 football season on Monday, with East Central University quarterback Sergio Kennedy earning GAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Kennedy turned in an impressive performance in the Tigers' season opener on the road in Arkadelphia, making an impact both through the air and on the ground to lead ECU to a 27-17 upset of No. 20 Ouachita Baptist University.

The junior quarterback completed 18-of-27 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown while adding 111 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. His 52-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter extended the Tigers' lead to 27-10, giving ECU an advantage it would hold through the final whistle.

The honor marks the second GAC weekly award of Kennedy's career and the first time he has recorded more than 100 yards passing and rushing in the same game.

Kennedy and the Tigers will return to Koi Ishto Stadium for their home opener on Thursday, Sept. 10, when they host Arkansas-Monticello at 7 p.m.
