Darren Garrigan is in his second season as coach of the Tiger defensive backs after serving as assistant head coach and secondary coach at Freedom High School in Virginia.

In his first season, Garrigan mentored three All-GAC picks (Qumain Black, Fred Gaines and Norris Wrenn) and has helped both Black and Gaines develop into 2013 Preseason All-American picks.

Garrigan’s secondary at Freedom improved in every statistical category under his direction as he coached three all-district defensive backs.

He played professionally in 2008 and 2010 for the Alabama Vipers of the Arena Football League where he was part of a 2008 Arena Bowl Championship team.

The Woodbridge, Va., native played two seasons at West Texas A&M where he was a part of two Lone Star Conference Championship squads as a defensive back. He also played two seasons at Lackawanna College, where he was a preseason All-American and the team’s most valuable player.
