Johnnie Mack came to the Tigers coaching staff in 2014 as the running backs coach after spending the previous season as a strength & conditioning intern at Southern Methodist University in 2013-14.

Prior to joining the Mustangs staff, Mack played professional football in the Arena League and the Canadian Football League for the Calgary Stampeders several seasons.Â

The running back played at Texas Tech from 2002-04 and tallied 26 catches, 233 yards with one touchdown, 57 rushes for 328 yards and five TD’s as a senior for the Red Raiders. Mack finished the 2003 season ranked third in the Big 12 and 27th nationally with 24.8 yards per kickoff return and left Texas Tech with a single game record of a 60 yard kick return against SMU.Â

Prior to joining the Red Raiders, Mack was a California Junior College All-American and Offensive Player of the Year at City College of San Francisco. He helped the team to the California JUCO State Championship and a No. 1 ranking in the nation in 2001.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Development/Family Studies from Texas Tech in 2005 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Administration at ECU.
