Kirkland Parker joined the Tigers in 2022 as the Defensive Backs coach.
Prior to East Central, Parker attended West Texas A&M as a Graduate Assistant Coach. Before starting his years in Canyon, Parker spent one season as the Defensive Backs coach at Ottawa University in Surprise, Arizona.Â
In 2022, Parker helped the Tigers post a 9-3 overall record with a Heritage Bowl Championship win to conclude the season. As the Defensive Backs coach, Parker coached five All-Conference defensive backs and one All-Region safety (Cody Alexander). Parker and the Tigers were ranked top 10 defense in the country, and No. 1 in the country in turnovers, scoring defense in GAC, and 3rd down defense.Â
Parker was a three year letter winner at Washington State where he appeared in 31 games for the Cougars, recording 37 tackles including 1.5 for loss to go along with four pass breakups and one forced fumble. The Houston, Texas product earned a degree in Social Science from WSU in the Fall of 2017.
Prior to his time in Pullman, Parker attended Blinn Junior College where he tallied 17 tackles, three pass breakups, two interceptions, one blocked punt, one force fumble and one fumble recovery for the Buccaneers. Parker was a First Team All-District honoree as a senior at Kingwood High School where he registered 77 tackles to go along with four interceptions as a senior.
