Brett Cannon

Brett Cannon returns to the ECU Tiger’s Men’s Basketball program for the 2019-20 season as a graduate assistant coach, after a standout career on the court.

Cannon spent the previous year playing in the RegionaIliga German Basketball league for Cuxhaven.

The guard spent three seasons in a black and orange uniform (2015-18) after transferring from Arkansas-Fort Smith.  While with the Tigers, Cannon helped lead the team to the first NCAA Central Regional Tournament in school history (2016-17), two Great American Conference regular season titles (2015-17) and a GAC Championship tournament (2016-17).

The All-GAC honorable mention honoree left the team tied for first on the Triple-Doubles list, recording two during the 2017-18 season.  He is also ranked No. 5 in career assists (263), No. 6 in minutes (1,935) and No. 8 in assist/turnover ratio (1.63).

The Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Class 5A Player of the Year, was a four-year starter at Del City High School and led the Eagles to three state tournament berths in Class 5A.  He also left the school as the all-time leading scorer, with 1,307 points.

As a senior, Cannon earned OBCA Region 8 All-District, the Daily Oklahoman All-Big City First Team and All-Mid-State Conference First Team honors.

Cannon was also a stand out in the classroom, claiming OBCA First Team Academic All-State honors and was named the Del City Class Valedictorian in 2014.

The Del City, Okla., native earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from East Central in May 2018 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at ECU in sports administration.
