 LaShon Sheffield joined the East Central University men’s basketball staff for the 2012-13 season as a graduate assistant coach. 

Prior to joining the Tigers, Sheffield served as an assistant coach under ECU head coach Mac McConnell while McConnell headed the men’s basketball program at Ranger Junior College (Texas).

Before heading to Ranger, Sheffield spent four seasons playing professionally overseas. His last three seasons were spent in Germany, where he helped the team claim two division championships. Sheffield spent his first season in Ireland.

Sheffield was an NCAA Division II All-American, second team as a junior and first team as a senior, at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. During Sheffield’s playing career at Tarleton (2004-06), the Texans made one NCAA Final Four appearance and one trip to the NCAA Elite Eight. He was also named Lone Star Conference South Newcomer of the Year for 2004-05.

Prior to playing two seasons at Tarleton, Sheffield spent two seasons at Walters State Junior College (Tenn.) where he earned a First Team All-American award as well.

Sheffield graduated from Tarleton State in 2006, with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration at ECU.
