Lucas Hunter joined the East Central University men’s basketball coaching staff for the 2017-18 season as a graduate assistant coach.
In his first season with the Tigers, Hunter worked with the forwards and helped lead the team to a third-place finish in the Great American Conference standings. Along with his role on the floor, Hunters helped assist with recruiting, scheduling travel, overseeing student-athlete academics and scouting opponents.
Hunter comes to the Tigers after being a manager for the men’s basketball program at Southern Illinois University. In two seasons as the lead manger the Salukis had great success, finishing in the top four in the Missouri Valley Conference. Prior to his work at SIU, Hunter served as a student manager at the University of Alabama.
While at SIU his duties included on floor skill development of guards and forwards, assisting with scouting reports, evaluating recruiting prospects, helping with on campus visits, working on film breakdown and coordinating team travel and meals.
The Carterville, Ill., native earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois in Civil and Environmental Engineer in May 2017 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration from East Central.
