Gina Mengwasser moved from the field to the dugout after two stand-out season with the East Central University softball team, as she will start her first season as a graduate assistant coach.

The two-time Great American Conference First Team selection finished her career with the Tigers with a .358 batting average, recording 23 home runs, 112 hits and adding 58 runs and 94 RBIs.  The catcher earned a .980 fielding percentage, with 372 putout, 68 assists and just nine errors in two seasons.

The Daktronics All-Region Second Team pick in 2013 transferred to ECU from Seminole State College where she helped the team to a 44-13 record and a second-place finish at the NJCAA Region II tournament in 2012.  Mengwasser was named the 2012 NFCA Diamond Catcher of the Year for the NJCAA and All-America honors after hitting .477, with 22 home runs and 65 RBIs.

Mengwasser was a standout player at Deer Creek High School where she earned all-state honors prior to attending SSC.

The Edmond, Okla., native earned an associate’s degree in science from Seminole State in May 2012 and a bachelor’s degree in physical education, with a teaching certificate from ECU in May 2014.  Mengwasser is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sport administration.
