Bailey enters his 15th season as a head coach and 13th at East Central University women’s soccer program. Bailey led the Tigers to Great American Conference regular season and postseason tournament championships in 2011 and to the GAC semifinals in 2012.
The 2020 season was cut short and played in the Spring of 2021 due to COVID-19. The Tigers went 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the GAC. ECU advanced to the GAC Championship Tournament for the first time since 2017 and advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2011, with a shutout win (2-0) at home over Harding.
While the 2020 season was cut short, the Tigers still saw several players earn honors from the GAC or other organizations. Tanja Bauböck led the group, being named the GAC Offensive Player of the Year, GAC Freshman of the Year, an All-GAC First Team selection and a United Soccer Coaches Award of Distinction winner. ECU also saw Cash Pierce (D) named to the All-GAC First Team, Madison Hays (D) to the second team and Jocelyn Caracheo and Mollie Nance claim All-GAC Honorable Mention. Caracheo and Nance also claimed GAC All-Tournament honors and Ashley VanSchuyver and Allie Verner added to the United Soccer Coaches Award of Distinction list.
ECU also continued their strong performance in the classroom, with eight earned GAC All-Academic honors and seven earn a spot on the D2ADA All-Academic Team.
The 2019 season saw three players earn All-GAC honors, with the team going 6-12 overall and 4-8 in league play. Alyssa Butler finished off a record setting career by earning All-GAC First Team honors, United Soccer Coaches Association All-Central Region Third Team and USC All-West Scholar Region. Butler set three ECU Career Top-10 records, including No. 2 in Minutes (6,138), No. 2 in Matches Started (70) and No. 4 in Matches Played (71).
Butler was joined by Alexis Castillo (Second Team) and Allie Verner (Honorable Mention), as members of the 2019 All-GAC teams.
The Tigers also continued their excellence in the classroom, with 13 making the GAC Fall All-Academic Team and 12 earning a spot on the D2ADA All-Academic Team.
In 2018 the Tigers saw two players earn All-GAC honorable mention honors, while going 3-15. The team also saw 16 players earn All-GAC Academic and nine D2ADA Academic Team honors.
2017 saw the Tigers finish 6-8-4 overall and 3-3-4 in the GAC and advancing to the GAC Tournament. Bailey also recorded his 100
th career victory with a 2-0 victory over Southwestern Christian.
ECU had a strong season with Alyssa Butler earning United Soccer Coaches Association All-Central Region Third Team honors, All-GAC First Team and GAC All-Tournament honors. The Tigers added Chloe Hull and Alexis Castillo to the All-GAC Second Team, while Lizette Carreon was named to the All-GAC Honorable Mention team.
ECU also had a strong year in the classroom, earning 12 Academic All-GAC honors and eight D2ADA Academic team honors.
The 2016 season saw three land on the All-GAC teams, with Deanna Rudasill and Alexis Castillo earning second team honors, while Alyssa Butler was an honorable mention pick. Rudasill led the Tigers with 10 goals and three assists for 23 points, while also excelling in the classroom.
Rudasill became the first ECU soccer player and the sixth Tiger in school history to earn Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America honors, as a third team selection, with a 4.00 GPA.
The 2016 team was also honored for its efforts off the field, being named the 2016 GAC Soccer Sportsmanship award winner.
2015 saw three members of the team earn All-GAC Honorable Mention honors, with Sitona Holm, Megan Lantrip and Taylor Kennedy making the team. Kennedy led the team with eight goals, landing No. 9 on the individual season records list for ECU. She also ranked No. 10 on the season points list with 18. Of her eight goals, three were match winners moving her career total to four match-winning goals (No. 3 career).
The 2014 season saw three players earned All-GAC honors, including seniors Margaret Glutz and Katie Glutz being named to the first team and senior Milan Galloway to the second team. Margaret Glutz was the first GAC soccer player to earn four-straight All-GAC First Team honors and was also named the 2014 GAC Defender of the Year. Her sister Katie Glutz was also one of the first players to earn four-straight GAC honors, three on the first team.
In 2013 the Tigers saw three players named to All-GAC teams. Margaret Glutz and Katie Glutz were both named to the All-GAC First Team and Ashley Bradford earned her second-straight honor by being named to the second team.
After falling victim to key injuries, including both goalkeepers, for most of 2012, the Tigers finished 4-11-4 overall and 4-4-2 in the GAC. Under his tutelage, Ashley Bradford and Margaret Glutz earned All-GAC First Team honors and Katie Glutz and Carla Rodriguez were named to the second team. Bradford was also a NSCAA All-Region Third Team selection in 2012.
ECU’s 12-6-1 record in 2011 was among the best in school history, as Bailey was named GAC Coach of the Year. Three of his players were named to the All-GAC First Team while five more were placed on the second team in 2011.
Under Bailey’s direction, forward Whitney Watts was selected as GAC Offensive Player of the Year while defender Margaret Glutz was chosen GAC Freshman of the Year. Glutz also picked up a Third Team All-South Central Region award from the National Soccer Coaches Association.
Bailey has an 55-105-17 record through eight seasons as Tiger head coach after taking over the duties from his sister Heather Beam in 2009.
The Tigers have picked up 15-straight National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic awards and consistently have a large number of student-athletes named to the all-conference academic honors lists.
Prior to his head coaching duties at ECU, Bailey spent eight seasons as the Tigers assistant coach, 1998-2000 and 2004-08.
During that stint, the Tigers went to two Lone Star Conference Tournaments with a runner-up finish in 2000.
Bailey was the head coach at Lambuth University (Tenn.) for two seasons (2001 and 2002) as he guided the team to a 15-18-3 record during that span, including two postseason tournament playoff appearances.
He also coached one All-American player, several all-conference players and numerous academic all-conference award winners. Both of his 2001 and 2002 Lambuth teams received the NSCAA Team Academic honors.
Following his two-year stint at Lambuth, Bailey spent one season as the assistant coach at Angelo State University where he helped lead the Rambelles back to the Lone Star Conference Tournament for the first time in five years. ASU also received the NSCAA Team Academic Award while he was there.
Bailey has a wealth of miscellaneous soccer coaching experience. He has conducted coaches’ clinics for the Oklahoma Soccer Association, Oklahoma Olympic Development Program, South Texas Soccer Association and the Jackson (Tenn.) Area Soccer Association. He also started and coached the Ada High School program in 2000-01 before heading to Tennessee.
The native of Allen, Texas is licensed through the United States Soccer Federation and holds several NSCAA coaching diplomas. He received his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Christian University (where he was a member of the men’s soccer team) in 1995 and his masters from ECU in 1999.
Bailey is married to Shelley (Reynolds). The couple has one daughter, Evelyn Grace.
