Dr. Nick Stowers

Dr. Nick Stowers was named the East Central University Facility Athletic Representative starting in the 2019-20 season.  As FAR, his duties are working in conjunction with the president, campus athletic administrators, and conference, while exercising three primary roles: ensuring a quality student-athlete experience and student-athlete well-being; ensuring the academic integrity of the athletics program; and ensuring institutional control of the athletics program.  He will also serve as the staff representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
 
Dr. Stowers is an Assistant Professor in the Kinesiology department at ECU and teaches classes in the Master of Education in Sports Administration program.  He has been a faculty member at ECU since 2016.
 
He was previously the Assistant Athletic Director at Rogers State University.  At RSU, Stowers worked game-day operations, helped with NCAA compliance, provided student-athletes’ academic advisement, managed study hall, and arranged tutoring sessions, while overseeing the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  He was also an adjunct instructor in RSU’s Sport Management program. 
 
With a research focus in College Athletics, Dr. Stowers has served as a facilitator at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum and has participated in several training opportunities offered by the NCAA.  He has presented his research at conferences and recently submitted two manuscripts for publication.
 
The Ringling, Oklahoma native earned a Bachelor of Science from ECU, Master of Education in Sports Management from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from Oklahoma State University.  In addition to his degrees, Dr. Stowers holds a certification in athlete development from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.
 
Stowers is married to Alison and the couple are expecting their first child in October 2019.
