RUSSELLVILLE, ARK. – It didn't take long for an East Central University football player to be recognized for his efforts on the field this season, as junior defensive back Qumain Black has been named the first Great American Conference Defense Player of the Week for 2013.

Black intercepted a pair of passes in the Tigers' 46-22 season-opening victory against Arkansas-Monticello. He returned the second interception 80 yards for the final touchdown of the game.

In the first quarter, he returned his first interception 58 yards to the 5-yard line that led to the second touchdown of the game. He also added a 40-yard kick return to finish with 178 all-purpose yards.

The Tigers (1-0, 1-0 GAC) will hit the road for the first time this season for a game at Southern Arkansas, Saturday, Sept. 14.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Wilkins Stadium in Magnolia, Ark.
