Women’s Basketball Moves to 3-0 with Win Over Rogers State

Box Score ADA – The East Central University women's basketball team moved to 3-0 for 2013-14 win a 79-48 win over Rogers State in non-conference action at the Kerr Activities Center.

The Lady Tigers (3-0) saw five difference players with double-digits in the point's column for the third-straight game.  Senior Alycea Price also tallied her second-straight double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.  Fellow senior Ashley Robison added 15 points; junior Ashleigh Kelman-Poto contributed 12 and juniors Erin Walling and Janee Garza both tallied 10.


The game started out as a defensive battle, with both teams holding each other to four points in the first four minutes.  With 15:48 left in the first half, ECU made the first push and used a 12-2 run over the next five minutes to earn a 16-6 advantage.  The Lady Tigers kept up the pressure through the first half, building the lead to as many as 24 before going to the locker room with a 39-18 lead.

After ECU scored the first two points of the second half, the Hillcats (1-2) used a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to 15, with 18 minutes left to play.  The Lady Tigers kept the advantage between 15-18 points for the next 7:30 before again pushing the tempo and building the lead out to 30 points in the final 10 minutes of the second stanza.  ECU kept the pressure up and earned the 79-48 win.

While the Lady Tigers had all 10 players registered at least two points in the game, eight with rebounds and nine with assists; it was the defense that really won the game for ECU.  The Hillcats were held to a 25.9 (14-of-54) overall shooting percentage and 25 (5-of-20) percent mark from three point range.  The Lady Tigers also forced 21 turnovers, recording 25 points off those mistakes.

ECU will now prepare for the opening Great American Conference games of the 2013-14 season, with Ouachita Baptist set to come to Ada, Thursday, Nov. 21 for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
