The Reddies (4-2, 1-1 GAC) opened the game with a 0-6 advantage, but ECU quickly fought back to tie the game at six, with 17:16 left to play in the first half. The teams traded baskets and runs for most of the first stanza, with no team lead by more than four points.
With 5:41 left to play before the intermission, the Tigers used a 12-4 run to push the lead out to 10 (37-27). HSU used a 5-2 run in the final two minutes of the half to cut the deficit to 39-32 at the half.
The Reddies continued the momentum into the second half, going on a 9-1 run over the first three minutes to take a 40-41 advantage. ECU pushed the lead back out to six over the next two minutes and held on to the lead until 12:26 remained when HSU tied the game at 49. The teams battled for control of the next two minutes before the Reddies took control with a 5-0 run for the 55-60 advantage.
The Tigers continued to fight to the end buzzer, but were unable to cut the deficit to less than two points and fell 67-75.
Rebounding became a clear difference in the game, as ECU was out-rebounded 35-50 and HSU scored 18 second-chance points during the game to nine by the Tigers. ECU also struggled with fouls, sending the Reddies to the charity stripe 34 times (20 makes) and only going 16-of-20 themselves.
The Tigers will now have a week off before travel to face Tarleton State, Saturday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.
