RUSSELLVILLE, ARK. – A total of 11 East Central University football players have been honored by the Great American Conference for the 2014 season. Three were named to the All-GAC First Team, two to the Second Team and six to the Honorable Mention Team.
Seniors
JoJo Snell (RB) and
Daniel Holland (DE) and junior Travis Henning (OL) were all named to the first team, while seniors Micheal Allen (TE) and
Kellan Taeatafa-De La Rosa (S) were both named to the All-GAC Second Team.
The largest number of players landed on the honorable mention team, with sophomore
David Moore (WR), senior
Marcus Beale (OL), senior
JuJu Turituri (DT), junior
Jameel Whitney (ILB), senior
Qumain Black (CB) and redshirt sophomore
David Massuere (K) being named to the team.
Snell finished the regular-season with 1,415 all-purpose yards (157.2/gm). The Moss Point, Miss., native rushed for 764 yards and scored six touchdowns, 159 yards receiving and 492 yards on kick returns. He has recorded over 200 all-purpose yards in two games this season and over 100 in five more.
Holland had a strong season on defense, setting an ECU and GAC record for sacks in a single season, with 12.0 (79 yards). The Miami, Fla., native added 39 total tackles (20-19) and 16.0 (102 yards) tackles-for-loss. Holland was credited with six quarterback hurries, one pass break up, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles.
Hening, who was an All-GAC Second Team pick in 2013, helped the Tigers rack up 4,215 yards of total offense, including 1,628 rushing yards and 2,587 passing yards. His presence on the line also allowed the ECU quarterbacks to be sacked 15 times during the season.
This was the second season that Turituri earned All-GAC honors, making the second team in 2013. It was also the second year in a row for Black, Allen and Taeatafa-De La Rosa, with Black earning first team honors in 2013 and Allen and Taeatafa-De La Rosa making the honorable mention squad a year ago.
