Box Score 2 ADA – The East Central University baseball team fell 1-2 and 1-7 to Cameron University in the opening games of the 2014 season at Tiger Field.
The Tigers (0-2) tallied 11 hits in the two games and allowed 13. Juniors
Luc Pomales,
Garrett Donohoe and
Nick Spini all garnered two hits, including a double, each. Spini added an RBI and hit .333 for the series.
Junior
Lucas Kaplan threw a complete game in the opener, allowing six hits, two runs and striking out two. Junior
Icezack Flemming threw the first two innings of the second game, allowing seven hits and seven runs, while striking out seven batters.
The teams were slated to play a third game in the series, Sunday, Feb. 2, but it has been cancelled due to the impending winter weather in the area.
Game 1 – Cameron 2, ECU 1
The Aggies (2-0) opened the scoring with a run in the second and added a second in the sixth before ECU was able to get on the board.
The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, with two outs on the scoreboard. Donohoe started things off with a double to right center and was sent home on a double from Spini to right center in the next at-bat.
ECU had a chance to tie in the bottom of the seventh, with a runner on second and two outs after senior
Ethan Gold hit a single down the right field line as a pinch hitter. However, the next batter popped up to the third baseman to end the game.
Game 2 – Cameron 7, ECU 1
Cameron opened the second game of the day with a run in the first inning. The Aggies added three in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 0-7 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, ECU earned its lone run of the game. Spini started the inning with a single to right field and went sent to third on a double by Pomales down the left field line. Junior
David Terrazas earned the RBI after he grounded out to second.
