Women’s Basketball Moves into Second in the GAC Standings

Junior Taylor Fischer tallied a career-high 17 points in the win over Arkansas-Monticello.
Box Score ADA – The East Central University women's basketball moved into second place in the Great American Conference standings with a 70-51 win over Arkansas-Monticello and losses for Southwestern and Southeastern.

The Lady Tigers (15-6, 10-5 GAC) were led by junior Taylor Fischer, who tallied a career-best 17 points.  Junior Dilan Webster added 12 points and nine rebounds.

The game was close at the start, with a tie at four after the first 4:30.  ECU then used a 9-3 run over the next five minutes to take a 13-7 advantage.  The Cotton Blossoms (5-16, 1-14 GAC) countered with a 9-4 run over a three-minute span to cut the deficit to one (17-16).

The Lady Tigers kept fighting and used an 8-2 run to take control of the scoreboard.  ECU built its lead up to 10 with three minutes left.  UAM cut the lead to four in the final 49 seconds, but the Lady Tigers finished the half, with a 5-0 run, for a 36-25 lead at the half.

ECU started the second half with a 4-0 run, in the first two minutes, to push the lead to 16.  The Lady Tigers kept the advantage between 12 to 16 points until 12:41 when they pushed ahead to a 19-point lead with a 5-0 run.  The Lady Tigers kept the advantage between 16 to 19 points for the remainder of the game and earned the 70-51 win.

ECU earned key advantages in shooting percentage (49.2% to 32.6%) and rebounds (38-29).  However, UAM took a clear lead at the free-throw line, going 21-of-31 to the Lady Tigers' 6-of-9 mark.

ECU will now hit the road for the next two week, with three games.  The road trip will start Thursday, Feb. 13 in Weatherford, Okla.  The Lady Tigers will battle with Southwestern Oklahoma State in the new Pioneer Event Center starting at 5:30 p.m.
