Baseball Takes Down Oklahoma Baptist

Junior Oscar Gomez earned his third win of the season against Oklahoma Baptist.
Box Score SHAWNEE, OKLA. – The East Central University baseball team earned a 13-7 win over Oklahoma Baptist in a non-conference game at OBU Bison Field.  The game was the fourth-straight win for the Tigers (14-10).

ECU saw a large majority of the roster in the game, with six players recording two hits to help the Tigers to 14 hits for the game, while only allowing seven.  Junior Luc Pomales led the team with two hits and three RBIs, while senior Josh Lavender also tallied three RBIs on one hit.

Junior Oscar Gomez earned the win, improving to 3-0 on the season.  Gomez threw the first six innings, allowing three hits and three runs and striking out four batters.

ECU opened the score in the top of the second inning scoring one run.  Senior Ethan Gold started the inning with a double to center field and was sent home on a single by junior Bryce McKee to left center.

The Tigers added two runs in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead.  Lavender was hit by a pitch and junior Nick Spini walked to put two runners in scoring position when Pomales hit a double to center field to score two runs.

The Bison (23-2) scored their first run in the bottom of the third for a 3-1 ECU advantage.

ECU responded with a run in the top of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.  McKee started the inning with a triple off the fence in right field and scored when junior Garrett Donohoe reach on a fielder's choice.

OBU responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-3 score.

The Tigers broke open the scoring in the top of the fifth, with six runs for a 10-3 lead.  Junior David Terrazas started the inning by being hit by a pitch and was advanced to second on a groundout by Pomales.  Terrazas moved to third when Gold singled up the middle and was sent home on a single to short by junior Casey Chenoweth.  McKee was walked to load the bases and junior Ty Huie earned an RBI when he was walked to leave the bases loaded.

Lavender then earned two RBIs with a double to left center.    Donohoe earned an RBI with a ground out to short and Terrazas added the final run with a single to right center.

ECU added another run in the top of the sixth.  Huie singled and stole second to be in scoring position when Lavender reached on an error for an 11-3 lead.

The Tigers added two runs in the top of the seventh for a 13-3 advantage.  Donohoe lead off the inning with a single to third, Terrazas singled to left field and was replaced on base by sophomore Gavin Susca.  Pomales earned an RBI with a single to center field and Gold reached on a fielder's choice that left Susca on third.  That set up Chenoweth for an RBI when he singled to left field.

The Bison scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 13-5 lead for the Tigers.

The teams then held each other scoreless in the next inning before OBU scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 13-7 final.

The Tigers will return home and have a day off before their next outing, Wednesday, March 19 against Dallas Christian College for a double-header at Tiger field starting at 1 p.m.  ECU will remain at home to face Southern Nazarene March 21-22 for a three-game Great American Conference series.  A single game is scheduled for Friday, March 21 at 2 p.m. and a double-header slated to start at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 22.
