Baseball Falls to No. 25 Arkansas-Monticello

Junior Garrett Donohoe hit his fifth home run of the season against Arkansas-Monticello.
Box Score MONTICELLO, ARK. – The East Central University baseball team saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end with a 5-17 loss to No. 25 Arkansas-Monticello at Weevils Field in Great American Conference action.

The Tigers (20-11, 9-7 GAC) were led by junior Garrett Donohoe, who tallied two hits, two runs and an RBI.  Seniors Josh Lavender and Ethan Gold also added two hits each, with Gold earning two RBIs.

Junior Cam McKay suffered the loss on the mound, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing five hits and six runs, with two strikeouts.  Junior Lucas Kaplan started the game and went 4.1 innings, with three K's.

ECU scored the first run of the game in the top of the first when Donohoe hit his fifth home run of the season to left center for a 1-0 lead.

However, the Boll Weevils responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 1-4 lead and then added a run in the second to push the lead to 1-5.

The Tigers didn't quit fighting and used a four-run sixth inning to tie the game at five.  Lavender started in the inning with a double to left center and was sent to third when Donohoe reached on a bunt to third.  Junior Nick Spini loaded the bases by drawing a walk, allowing junior David Terrazas to earn the first RBI with a single through the right side.

Junior Luc Pomales added an RBI when he was hit by a pitch and Gold added two RBIs when he singled to center field for the five-all score.

UAM regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh with six runs for a 5-11 lead and scored six more in the bottom of the eight for the 5-17 final.

The teams will play the final two games of the series, Sunday, March 30 starting at noon.
