Men’s Basketball Finishes Season in GAC Quarterfinals

Senior Henry Pwono tallied 27 points in his final game for the Tigers.
Box Score BARTLESVILLE, OKLA. – The East Central University men's basketball team saw its 2013-14 season come to an end in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Great American Conference Tournament when they fell 65-77 to Harding in Bruin Fieldhouse.

The Tigers ended the season with a 15-12 overall record, their first winning record since 2007-08 (14-13).  ECU was led by senior Henry Pwono recorded his third-straight game with over 25 points, garnering 27 points and 13 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.  Fellow seniors Chris Fisher and Colby Carr were both in double-digits in the point's column for the Tigers, with 12 and 10 respectively.

The Bisons (13-14) started the game with a 5-0 run, holding ECU without a field goal for the first three minutes.  The Tigers kept the game close and had cut the deficit to one (7-8), with 15:31 left to play.  However, that is when Harding used a 6-0 run over the next two minutes to pull ahead by seven.

ECU again fought back and trailed just 13-14, with 11:45 left in the stanza.  The Bisons kept pushing and had extended the lead back to 19-30, with 4:45 on the clock.  The Tigers countered with a 6-0 run over the next 1:30 to cut the deficit to five (25-30).  The teams traded points over the next minute before Harding used a 5-0 run in the remaining time to take a 29-40 lead into the locker room.

The second half started out as a battle in the first 3:30 before Harding used a 6-0 run to push the lead to 15.  The Tigers kept fighting and cut the deficit to seven with a 7-0 run (47-54), with 11:38 left to play.  However, the Bisons followed with an 11-2 run to regain a double-digit advantage, 49-65, with 5:30 left on the clock.

ECU did not give up and used an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to cut the lead to eight (57-65).  However, that is as close as the Tigers would get, as the Bisons used a 6-1 run over the next minute to regain control of the momentum.  Harding kept control and went on to win 65-77.
