Soccer Battles to a Tie at Missouri Southern State

JOPLIN, MO. – The East Central University soccer team wrapped up a busy week of non-conference action with a 3-3 tie at Missouri Southern State.

The Lady Tigers (2-2-1) were led by senior Milan Galloway, who tallied two goals.  Her two-goal performance was the first by an ECU player since Oct. 13, 2013 when Ashley Bradford scored two against Ouachita Baptist.

"We have an overall positive effort today," said head coach Riley Bailey.  "We showed a lot of resilience and competed hard all day.  The team produced some great goals and it's definitely something to keep building on."

Junior Kaitie Herrin started the scoring at the 2:07 mark, with an assist from senior Kristina Gonzalez-Claborn.

The Lions (2-1-1) added two goals before the end of the first half at 13:37 and 18:36 to take a 1-2 advantage into the break.

ECU used the rest period to renew their energy and Galloway scored two goals in less than a minute to put the Lady Tigers up 3-2.  Galloway scored at 45:20 (20 seconds into the half) and 46:13.

The score remained in favor of ECU until late in the second half, when MSSU sent in a shot at 77:42 to tie the game at three and forcing overtime.

The teams then battled through two 10-minute overtime periods without a goal being scored.

The Lady Tigers will now prepare for a match, Tuesday, Sept. 16 against Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla. at 7 p.m.
