Volleyball Falls in Four to Oklahoma Baptist

ADA – The East Central University volleyball team dropped a 1-3 (25-18, 14-25, 20-25, 7-25) decision to Oklahoma Baptist in Great American Conference action at the Kerr Activities Center during homecoming week.

The Tigers (5-18, 1-11 GAC) were led by senior Sarah Simpson, who tallied 14 kills and 20 digs for her third double-double of the season.  Fellow senior Hayley Gerken had another record setting night for ECU, earning her 52nd career block solo to set Tigers Career Block Solo record.

Sophomore Taylor Turner also earned a double-double for ECU, with 32 assists and 11 digs.

The Tigers came out ready to fight in the opening set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead.  The Bison (15-11, 10-2 GAC) were able to cut the deficit to two (6-4), but that was as close as ECU would let them get the rest of the set.  The Tigers kept pushing the tempo and extended the lead back out to as many as seven and eventually earned the 25-18 win.

The second set as close through the first 10 serves, which resulted in a five-all tie.  That is when OBU took control with a 5-0 run.  The lead was all they would need, as they used several small runs and never let the Tigers score more than two-points in a row to earn the 14-25 win.

The third set was a close battle from start to finish, with eight tie scores and four lead changes.  The final tie came at 12, when the Bison put together a 3-0 run to take the lead for good.  ECU kept the set close, trialing by just one to four points the rest of the way before falling 20-25.

The final set started out close, with OBU holding a one-point lead until 6-7.  That is when the Bison rattled off 17-straight points to take a 6-24 lead and then earned the 7-25 win.

The Third will remain now get ready for a two-match road swing, with stops to face Southern Nazarene (Nov. 3) and Southwestern (Nov. 5) before returning home for the final three regular-season matches.
