Volleyball Falls in Final Road Match of 2015 Season

WEATHERFORD, OKLA. – The East Central University volleyball team dropped a 0-3 (15-25, 18-25, 18-25) decision to Southwestern Oklahoma State in the final road match of the 2015 season.

The Tigers (5-20, 1-13 GAC) were led by sophomore Alex Campbell, who hit .300 (5k-2e-10ta) and added a block assist.  Senior Sarah Simpson led the team with eight kills and added seven digs.  Sophomore Madyson Gill led the defense with 11 digs.

The teams traded the first six serves of the opening set, before the Bulldogs (18-10, 9-5 GAC) took the first lead with a 3-0 run.  ECU kept things close until the middle of the set when another 3-0 run by SWOSU pushed their lead out to five (8-13).  The Bulldogs used a few small runs through the rest of the set to earn a 15-25 win.

The second set was close all the way through, with several small runs by each team.  However, it was SWOSU that put together more of those runs and took an 18-25 win.

The teams traded the first six serves of the third set and then the Tigers took a 6-3 lead with the first run of the set.  ECU kept the advantage until the Bulldogs used a 2-0 run to tie the set at nine.  The teams then traded runs and points until a 16-all tie.  SWOSU then used another 4-0 run to take a 16-20 lead.  The teams traded points again through the end of the set, with the Bulldogs earning the sweep with an 18-25 win.

ECU will now host the final three matches of the 2015 season at the Kerr Activities Center.  The home stand will start Saturday, Nov. 7 when Northwestern Oklahoma State comes to Ada for a 2 p.m. match.  The Tigers will also face Mid-American Christian (Nov. 10) and Southeastern Oklahoma State (Nov. 12).
