Women’s' Basketball Set to Honor Five Seniors

The East Central University women's basketball team is preparing for its final weekend of regular-season Great American Conference action, with a game at arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State set for Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m.  ECU will then host Southern Nazarene, Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the final game of the regular season.

Game Notes

The Broadcast
ECU's radio home for Tigers basketball in 2014-15 is Ada's KXFC, 105.5, FM 'The X-Factor'. Kenny Morrison returns to broadcast the games for his 18th season. Morrison, a 1987 ECU graduate, spent two seasons doing color prior to taking over the play-by-play duties during the 1997-98 season.

The Coverage
Fans who can't be at the game can find links to live stats, live video (if available) and the KXFC radio broadcast on ECUTigers.com.  Go to the men's basketball schedule page. Fans can listen to the radio broadcast online or through the FREE KXFC App available in ITunes, Google Stores where apps are sold and www.kxfcradio.com.

Busy Saturday
Saturday's game will be jam packed with events, starting with a men's and women's basketball reunion.  All former ECU basketball players have been invited back to the Kerr Activities Center to help honor this year's seniors (two men's; five women's) that will be honored between games.  The game is also the annual White Out  game sponsored by Pi Kappa Alpha and will benefit a veteran's organization.

Scouting Southeastern
The Savage Storm are 18-8 overall and tied with the Tigers at 11-7 in the GAC standings after winning their last three games.  SEOSU has combined for a +8.5 scoring and a -1.7 rebounding margin on the year and is relying on the three.  The Savage Storm average 9.4 triples per game and allow 6.1.

SEOSU has two players hat are averaging double-digits in the point's column, with Emily Williams leading the team.  Williams averages 18.3 points and rebounds per game, while shooting .402 from the field and adding 83 assists.  Olivia Potter adds 10.7 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, with most of her shots coming from beyond the arc.

Against the Savage Storm
In the first meeting of the season, the Tigers claimed a 56-53 win over SEOSU at the Kerr Activities Center, with free throws down the stretch being the key.

Senior Dilan Webster had a strong game, with 21 points and four rebounds, while senior Erin Walling added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Emily Williams was the top producer for the Savage Storm, with 23 points and 10 boards.

The Series
The all-time series with SEOSU is currently sitting at 32-35 in favor of the Savage Storm despite the Tigers claiming wins in the last two games in the series.

Scouting Southern Nazarene
The Crimson Storm are 7-18 overall and 4-15 in the GAC after falling in their last four games.  SNU will get to rest before facing ECU, with no game on their schedule for Thursday.  The Crimson Storm have a -6.6 scoring margin, but a +1.7 rebounding margin on the year.

Aminata Fall is the key player for SNU, with 21.3 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, while adding 110 blocks.  Abby Boyd adds 13.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

Against the Crimson Storm
For the first time since 1985-86 the Tigers claimed a 55-49 win over SNU when playing on the road.  The key to the game came at the charity stripe, where ECU went 15-of-28 and SNU 9-of-14 for the day.

Senior Dilan Webster led the team with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists.  Webster was one of four players in double digits in the point's column for the game.

Aminata Fall led the Crimson Storm with 19 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.

The Series
After breaking an 11-game road losing streak with SNU, the Tigers have come closer to evening out the all-time series with the Crimson Storm.  SNU currently holds a 12-15 lead in the series.

Coming off the Bench
Most players get excited and do better when they move from an off the bench role to a starting spot, but the opposite has been true for senior Ashleigh Kelman-Poto.  She has created a great spark coming off the bench for the Tigers.  Kelman-Poto started the first five games of the season and was averaging 8.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, but in the games as the first player off the bench she has increased her output to 9.7 points and 5.2 boards per game.

Rogers Making Noise
Freshman Kendal Rogers may have seen action in all 24 of the Tigers games this season, but she made the most of her minutes against No. 15 Arkansas Tech.  The Davis, Okla., native garnered a career-high 10 points, including six free throws and added four rebounds an assist and a block.

Tigers Leaving Their Mark
The Tigers are ranked in the top-30 in two categories and have two players ranked in one category individually in the top-100.  ECU is making the most noise in the turnover column, as they are ranked No. 3 with just 10.9 turnovers per game.  The Tigers are also No. 17 in assist/turnover ratio (1.14).

Senior Erin Walling is ranked No. 43 in ATR (1.78), while fellow senior Dilan Webster is No. 78 in blocks per game (1.50) and No. 94 in field-goal percentage (47.6).

Taylor Shaking it Up
Senior Taylor Fischer has moved into her starting role for ECU with strong numbers compared to a season ago.  In 2013-14, Fischer averaged 4.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per game and so far in 2014-15 she is netting 11.0 points and 2.8 boards per game.

Resetting the Record Books
Senior Dilan Webster may be the leading blocker for the Tigers, but she is also making a mark for herself in the scoring columns.  In the Dec. 6 game against Northwestern, Webster became the 13th player at ECU to earn 1,000 points, currently with 1,216.  She is also among five active players in the Great American Conference that have over 800 points and become the fifth player in GAC history to hit the milestone.

Fischer Player of the Week
Senior Taylor Fischer has earned the first honor of the season for the Tigers, being named the Great American Conference Player of the Week for Dec. 8.  Fischer pushed the Tigers to a 4-0 mark in the GAC as she averaged 17.5 points per game in victories against Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State last week. Against the Bulldogs, she scored 16 points with three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Against the Rangers, she scored 19 points and she made five 3-point field goals.

First Game/First Win
First-year head coach Matt Cole started out his head coaching career the best way a coach can, with a win in his first game when the Tigers defeated Rogers State 57-54 (Nov. 15, 2014).

Already Atop the Leader Board
Senior Dilan Webster has been a force to deal with on the blocks, as she became the ECU all-time leading blocker before her junior season (2013-14).  Webster tallied 30 more blocks a year ago and has 36 this season to move her own school record to 162 career blocks.

Up Next at Kerr Activities Center
ECU will wrap up the regular season at home against Southern Nazarene in a rare night Saturday game.  The Tigers will face the Crimson Storm at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28 on the annual Senior Night.  The Tigers will honor their five seniors (Taylor Fischer, Janee Garza, Dilan Webster, Erin Walling and Ashleigh Kelman-Poto) between the men's and women's games.
