Baseball Takes Game One Against Henderson State

ADA, OKLA. – The East Central University baseball team final got back on the field after a week off and picked up right where they left off, earning a 7-3 win over Henderson State at Ken Turner Field.  The Tigers (11-3, 7-0 GAC) were the away team at the game after the series was shifted to Ada due to weather, but Henderson State got to keep the home team designation.

ECU saw seven players garner at least one hit in the game, with senior Nick Spini and Casey Chenoweth each tallying two.  Senior Garrett Donohoe led the team with three RBIs on one hit.

Senior Lucas Kaplan picked up the win on the mound, throwing six inning, allowing three hits, two runs and striking out 11.

The Tigers started the scoring in the top of the first, taking a 1-0 lead.  Senior Ty Huie was hit by a pitch to leadoff the game and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Ariel Adut.  Spini earned the RBI with a single to left field.

ECU added two more runs in the third inning for a 3-0 lead.  Huie started things with a leadoff single, stole second and was advanced to third on a fly to center by Adut.  Spini joined him on base with a walk and the first run was scored when senior Luc Pomales singled.  Senior Bryce McKee sent the second run home with a single.

Senior Cale Russell and Chenoweth then hit back-to-back doubles in the fourth to make it 4-0 for the Tigers.

The Reddies finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning, scoring two runs to cut the advantage to 4-2.

However, Donohoe put the game way with a three-run home run in the eighth inning for a 7-2 lead.

HSU tried to mount a comeback in the ninth, but were only able to ad one run for a 7-3 final.

The teams will wrap up the three-game series, Sunday, March 8 with a double-header scheduled to start at noon at Ken Turner Field.
