Baseball Drops First GAC Games of the Season

ADA – The East Central University baseball team lost its first Great American Conference games of the season, with 3-6 and 6-8 losses to Henderson State at Ken Turner Field.

The Tigers (11-6, 7-2 GAC) were led by senior Luc Pomales, who hit .500 for the day.  He tallied four hits and scored once.  Senior Oscar Gomez went 6.2 innings on the mound, striking out seven.

ECU will remain at home for their next five games, starting with a Tuesday, Oct. 10 game against Oklahoma Christian at 2 p.m.

Game 1 – HSU 6, ECU 3
The Tigers were the first two score in the opening game, with a single run in the first inning on a walk by senior Dustin Torres and a single by senior Nick Spini.

ECU made it a 3-0 game with two runs in the fifth inning, capitalizing on two Reddies errors and singles from Torres and senior Bryce McKee.

HSU waited until the seventh inning to get on the scoreboard, but quickly tied the game at three after the seventh.

The teams battled through a scoreless eighth inning and top of the ninth before the Reddies got a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the night for the 3-6 win.

Game 2 – HSU 8, ECU 6
HSU came out ready to play in the second game taking an early 0-5 lead after the second inning.

The Tigers countered with three runs in the fifth on a three-run blast from senior Cale Russell.

However, the Reddies responded with three runs in the sixth to push the lead back out to 3-8.

In the final inning, ECU made a push, but fell just short with three runs.  Senior Ty Huie and Pomales both singled to put runners on for Spini, who scored one with a double.  McKee added two runs with a single, but it was all the Tigers could manage and they fell 6-8.
