Baseball Preparing for Arkansas-Monticello

ADA – The East Central University baseball team is preparing for a key Great American Conference series with Arkansas-Monticello, April 10-11 at Ken Turner Field.  A double-header is set for Friday, April 10 at 1 p.m. and a single game Saturday, April 11 at noon.

The series is key for both teams, as the Tigers are currently sixth in the GAC standings and the Boll Weevils are seventh, with six teams advancing to the GAC Tournament.

UAM is currently 12-14 overall and 9-10 in the GAC after dropping a three-game series to Harding last weekend.  Corey Wood is the top producer at the plate, with a .337 average, 23 runs, 31 hits and 29 RBIs for the year.  Austin Braddock has seen 51 innings on the mound, going 6-2, with 34 hits and 14 runs allowed and striking out 37.

In 2014, the Tigers fell in all three games at UAM.  Senior Garrett Donohoe led ECU with a .667 average, three runs, four hits, two home runs and three RBIs.  Senior Lucas Kaplan threw 4.1 innings as the top returning pitcher.  He allowed six hits and five runs, while recording three strikeouts.

Bronson Gillam is the top returner in the series for the Boll Weevils, with a .385 average, six runs, five hits and 10 RBIs.  Austin Braddock went 1-0 in five innings, allowing four hits and three runs and recording five Ks.

Since 2003 the teams have met on 10 previous occasions, with ECU trailing 4-6 in the series overall, 3-5 when playing as GAC opponents, but having a 3-2 lead at home.

The Tigers will then get ready to face Oklahoma City, Tuesday, April 14 on the road at 6 p.m.  The Stars are 30-9 overall and 13-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference in the NAIA ranks and will play a double-header Thursday against Evangel before hosting the Tigers.
