Volleyball Sweeps Past Bacone

MUSKOGEE, OKLA. – The East Central University volleyball team picked up its first sweep of the season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-13) win over Bacone College in non-conference action.

The Tigers (3-7) had a balanced offensive attack that led to a .298 (43k-15e-94ta) team hitting percentage, while holding the Lady Warriors (0-12) to a .000 (16k-16e-66ta) mark.

ECU saw two players hit .417 for the match, with sophomore Alex Campbell earning six kills and sophomore Mackenzie Davis five.  Sophomore Madyson Gill led the way with 17 kills, four service aces and six digs.
Serving was the key to the victory for the Tigers, who recorded eight service aces and only allowed four.

The opening set started out tight, with 10 tie scores and four lead changes.  The final tie came at 12-all when ECU started a 5-1 run to take control of the set for good.  The teams then traded points for most of the set, but the Tigers held on for a 25-18 win.

ECU jumped out to an early 5-2 lead and had pushed the advantage out to 10-5 before Bacone started to fight back.  The Lady Warriors used several small runs through the middle of the set and forced a tie at 17.  That is when the Tigers came roaring back and used an 8-1 run to win the set 25-18.  The last six serves of the set where completed by freshman Michelle Baker, which included one ace.

The final set was all ECU, as they buckled down and pushed ahead to an early 7-3 advantage.  The Tigers used several small runs throughout the set to earn a 25-13 win.

ECU will now get ready to face arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State, Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in Durant, Okla., in its second Great American Conference match of the season.
