ST. JOSEPH, MO. – The East Central University soccer team fell to Missouri Western State in the 2015 season opener at the MIAA/GAC Challenge, 1-3.
The Tigers (0-1) trailed 0-3 late in the second half when sophomore
Deanna Rudasill tallied her first goal for ECU. She finished the game with two shots on goal, out of the nine for the Tigers. Senior
Megan Lantrip also garnered two shots on goal, while senior
Kelsey Pickrell earned an assist.
Freshman
Chloe Hull earned the start in goal for ECU, recording 10 saves.
The Griffons (1-0) struck first with a goal at 39:17 in the first half. MWSU added two goals in the second half at 57:13 and 71:16 to take a 0-3 advantage.
"We got off to a slow start and let them control too much of the game," said head coach
Riley Bailey. "We fought back in the second half and started throwing numbers forward which helped create more opportunities."
The Tigers will now get ready to face Emporia State, Sunday, Sept. 6 at noon. Emporia earned a 3-1 win over Harding in the first match of the challenge.
