The Tigers (7-20, 3-10 GAC) were led by junior
Alex Campbell, who tallied eight kills. Junior
Kaci Harrison added seven kills, 10 digs and two block assists.
The opening set was a back-and-forth battle at the beginning, with nine tie scores and four lead changes before a team could pull away by more than two points. The final tie came at 13-all when the Crimson Storm (15-10, 9-5 GAC) started to pull ahead for good.
ECU kept the match within in two points for a while, but a late 4-1 run gave SNU a 16-20 advantage. The Tigers were only able to score one more point, while the Crimson Storm earned the 17-25 win.
The second set was all SNU, as they jumped out to a 1-6 lead. In the middle of the set the teams traded big runs, but the closest that the Tigers could get was six (12-18) before the Crimson Storm claimed the 15-25 win.
The final set started out close, with four ties in the first 16 serves. However, after an eight-all tie, SNU used a 3-0 run to take the lead for good. ECU kept fighting and was able to cut the deficit to one (13-14), but quickly saw the disadvantage pushed back to four and expanded out to as many as eight before SNU took the set 17-25.
The Tigers will now play the final three regular-season matches of the 2016 season on the road. The road swing starts, Friday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. in Weatherford, Okla., against Southwestern.
ECU will also face Northwestern (Nov. 5/11 a.m.) and Southeastern (Nov. 10/7 p.m.) before the final teams are determined that will compete in the 2016 Great American Conference Championship Tournament.
