ADA – The East Central University baseball team will open the Great American Conference portion of the 2016 season, Feb. 19-20 at Ken Turner Field against Southwestern Oklahoma State. A single game is set for Friday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m., with a double-header on the slate for Saturday, Feb. 20 at noon.
The Tigers are 0-9 on the year after dropping four close games to No. 9 West Alabama last weekend. During the series, junior
Trevor Huie earned his first career home run, while adding a double and single. Junior
Riley Roberts let ECU with two RBIs in the series, with four hits.
The Bulldogs are 4-4 heading into the weekend series after winning their last three games. SWOSU has tallied the same number of hits as its opponents (61), but they trail 44-50 in runs scored and have recorded only eight extra-base hits to 22 by the opposition.
Joel Baxley is the top producer at the plate for the Bulldogs, with a .385 batting average, one run, five hits, two doubles and three RBIs. Zach Barton adds a .360 average, two runs, nine hits and five RBIs.
Jon Chidester is one of the key pitchers for SWOSU, with a 0.00 ERA and a 1-1 record in 13.0 innings of work. Chidester has allowed six hits, two runs (none earned) and struck out seven. Devin Ring adds a 2-2 record on the mound in 11 inning and a 4.09 ERA. Ring has struck out seven and allowed five hits and six runs.
Since 2000, the Tigers and Bulldogs have met on 62 previous occasions, with SWOSU holding a 29-33 advantage. However, ECU has been the victor in the last four games and brings the series closer when playing at home (15-16).
