Baseball Series Moved from Ada to Arkadelphia

Senior Casey Kenney
ADA – The East Central University baseball series against Henderson State, which was originally set to be played at Ken Turner Field, has been moved to Arkadelphia, Ark., and changed to Sunday, March 13-14 due to the rainy conditions in region.

The teams will play a doubleheader, Sunday, March 13 starting at noon and a single game, Monday, Mach 14 at noon at Clyde Berry Field.

The Tigers are now 4-14 and 4-5 in the Great American Conference after winning their first series win of the year, going 2-1 against Ouachita Baptist.

Junior Shae Edmonds picked up the wins on the mound in both games for ECU, throwing 4.2 innings, allowing just one hit and zero runs.  Edmonds struck out two and recorded an opponent batting average of .071.

Junior Kaleb Matthews led the Tigers at the plate with a .500 batting average, with three runs, hits and RBIs.

The Reddies are 9-11 overall and 6-3 in the GAC after going 1-2 against Southeastern last weekend.

Jacob Gaul and Jordan Taylor are leading HSU at the plate for the year.  Gaul has a .314 batting average, with five runs, 11 hits and three RBIs.  Taylor adds a .306 average, seven runs, 19 hits and 11 RBIs.

While the Reddies have a large pitching staff, only three have seen more than 30 innings of work on the mound in 2016.  Zach Eschberger leads HSU with a 3-2 record and 3.67 ERA in 34.1 innings and two complete games.  He has allowed 35 hits and 19 runs, while striking out 16.

Luke Tebbetts adds a 1-1 record and 2.17 ERA in 37.1 innings.  He has allowed 34 hits, nine runs and struck out 27.

The teams have battled on 15 previous occasions since 2000, with HSU holding a 4-11 overall record and 4-8 mark in the league.  The series is definitely tilted in favor of the Reddies at Clyde Berry Field, with a 1-8 mark.
