Baseball Headed to Shawnee for GAC Series

Sophomore Kyle Britt
ADA – The East Central University baseball team will head to Shawnee, Okla., for a Great American Conference series against Oklahoma Baptist, April 1-2.  The series will be the first between the teams as GAC opponents.  A single game is set for 6 p.m., Friday, April1 and a doubleheader is set to start Saturday, April 2 at noon.

The Tigers head into the week with an 8-20 overall record and an 8-10 mark in the GAC after going 2-1 last weekend against Harding.  The series win was the second on the year for ECU, who is currently tied for sixth in the standings.
Junior Jake McKeel is leading the Tigers with a .367 average for the year, with seven runs, 22 hits and 22 RBIs.

Oklahoma Baptist is 22-8 overall and 13-5 in the GAC during their first season in the league.  The Bison are technically in second in the standings, but since they are still in their NCAA transition period they are not eligible for post-season play.

OBU has hit .302 and held their opponents to .222 for the season.  Of the five players that are hitting over .300 individually, Brandon Cuddy leads the Bison with a .366 average, 32 runs, 37 hits and 39 RBIs.

OBU has seven pitchers that have thrown over 40 innings in 2016.  Jinny Parra leads the group with a 7-1 record and 2.86 ERA in 56.2 innings.  Parra has allowed 40 hits and 18 runs, while striking out 49.
