MONTICELLO, ARK. – The East Central University baseball team dropped the opening game of the Great American Conference series at Arkansas-Monticello, 3-13 (8).
The Tigers (14-22, 13-12 GAC) saw five players record a hit in the game, with seniors
Kris Molter and junior
Kaleb Matthews each tallying home runs.
Sophomore Brandan Dusenberry suffered the loss, throwing the first six innings and striking out three.
The scored started in the third inning, but it was the Boll Weevils (24-11, 15-7 GAC) that got on the board first. UAM scored a run in the third and the fourth for the 0-2 advantage.
ECU saw the first three batters of each inning retired until the fifth inning, with after two outs junior
Trey Mound was walked. That allowed junior
JT Stevenson to earn an RBI with a double down the left field line for the 1-2 score.
The Boll Weevils responded in the bottom of the fifth, adding two runs for a 1-4 advantage.
The Tigers saw a second run put up in the seventh on a solo home run by Matthews (2-4).
UAM again countered with runs in the bottom of the inning, this time score four to push the lead to 2-8.
ECU again earned a home run in the eighth, this time coming in the solo form from Molter (3-8).
However, the trend continued, with the Boll Weevils adding to the lead in the bottom of the inning, this time scoring five for a 3-13 final.
The teams will wrap up the series, Saturday, April 16 with a doubleheader set to start at noon.
