ADA – The East Central University baseball team will host Southern Arkansas April 23-24 at Ken Turner Field on the annual Senior Weekend for the Tigers. A doubleheader is set for Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m. and a single game, Sunday, April 24 at 1 p.m.
Senior Day festivities are scheduled to happen 15 minutes before the start of Saturday's doubleheader, and ECU will honors seniors
Casey Kenney,
Kris Molter and
Dylan Murphy.
The Tigers are 14-24 overall and 13-14 in the Great American Conference and are currently sixth in the standings, with two weeks left. Last weekend, ECU was led by sophomore
Jacob Cowling, with a .667 average and two hits against Arkansas-Monticello. Junior
JT Stevenson added a .400 average, two hits and an RBI.
The Muleriders are 25-16 overall and 15-12 in the GAC, ranking fifth and also still waiting to gain entry to the 2016 GAC Championship Tournament. SAU is hitting .281 for the year and allowing a .254 mark, with three players hitting over .300.
Justin Buchanan leads the team with a .349 average, 27 runs, 51 hits and 35 RBIs. Trevor Rucker adds a .320 average, 34 runs, 47 hits and 19 RBIs.
While the Muleriders have a large pitching staff, only four have thrown over 40 innings. Kenneth Tabor has thrown four complete games and has a 7-3 record and 3.09 ERA. He has allowed 57 hits, 31 runs and struck out 73. Hunter Mayo adds 7-4 record, two complete game and a 3.34 ERA. He has allowed 64 hits and 30 runs, while striking out 56.
The teams have met on 36 previous occasions, with SAU holding a clear 8-28 advantage. The gap is closer as GAC opponents (4-8) and when playing at Ken Turner Field (5-11).
